The Theopolitic Genocide and the Impact of Civil Initiatives on the Process: The Effects of Social Movement and Social Media on Politics

Abstract

Since October 7, a systematic and theopolitical genocide has been unfolding before the eyes of the entire world. This genocide, perpetrated by Israel with significant support from Western states, is being documented in all its dimensions. The current international system has proven unable or unwilling to intervene in the mass killing of thousands of civilians, including children. Given the failure of diplomatic initiatives and the absence of military intervention, it has become necessary to consider alternative forms of resistance against Israel. This study examines the anti-Israel social movements that have gained prominence in Western societies since October 7, 2023, alongside civil initiatives aiming to publicize the genocide globally. Various forms of resistance are discussed, including boycotts as a response to the systemic crisis, university campus protests, flotilla initiatives such as Sumudu aimed at breaching the Gaza blockade, and symbolic tribunals addressing the legal dimensions of the genocide. These civil initiatives, which seek to strengthen the anti-Israel bloc and maintain the genocide on the global agenda, are analyzed through the theoretical framework of new anti-war social movements that emerged after the 1960s.
