Following the Crusades, pursued for the domination of the Holy Land for two centuries, which ended in a military and political fiasco, the Western world has rebuilt its relations with the Orient on the principles of diplomacy, papal missions and trade, thus, the geographical ideas borrowed from classical antiquity that was found to be sufficient until that time, should be revised in the face of challenges arisen from such change in approach. The missionaries and merchants, traveling to the most remote corners of Asia, took on the role of a traveler and drew a vivid picture of the eastern lands filled with marvels and riches, sometimes realistic and sometimes exaggerated. Libro Del Conosçimiento, which was written in the second half of 14th century and constitutes the mainstream of this new ideas, presented the human and political composition of the East along with some portolan maps drawn in the same period. In our study, we shall submit a translation of the chapters covering Turkey in order to bring a clarification to the confusions and misinterpretations caused due to incorrect interpretation of the book which is an important historical document as it contains a brief description of the cities in Anatolia as well of portraits and flags and coat of arms of the principalities established for the same period in Anatolia.
