Zuknin Manastırı Süryani Kroniği (775) Özelinde İslam İdâresi Altındaki Hıristiyanlarda ‘Din Değiştirme’ Meselesi

Öz

VII. yüzyıl ortalarında Müslümanların yönetimi altına giren Doğu Hıristi-yan unsurlar arasında, İslam dininin ilgi gördüğü anlaşılmaktadır. Fakat İslamlaşma olgusu, İslam dünyasında ve Türkiye’de, tıpkı İslam Tarihi’ne dair diğer meseleler gibi, genellikle, sadece İslam kaynaklarından takip edilmiştir. Hâlbuki tabii olarak, o dönemlerin Hıristiyan yazarlarının da bu konuda söyleyecekleri olmuştur. Hıristiyanlar arasındaki İslamlaşma olgusuna atıf yapan çeşitli Doğu Hıristiyan metinleri arasında, 775 yılı ci-varlarında Ortodoks bir Süryani tarafından Diyarbakır yakınlarındaki Zuk-nin Manastırı’nda kaleme alınan bir kronik çalışması, ayrıcalıklı bir yere sahiptir. Bu makalede, bu metnin İslamlaşma meselesine dair aktardığı bilgiler üzerinde durulmuş ve bu bilgileri diğer Doğu Hıristiyan kaynakla-rıyla karşılaştırmak suretiyle İslamlaşma olgusu hakkında alternatif bir perspektif oluşturabilmek hedeflenmiştir.

The ‘Religious Conversion’ of Christians under Islamic Rule: In the case of the Chronicle of Zuqnin (775)

Öz

It is understood that there was an interest in Islam among eastern Christians who became subject of the Muslim Arabs in mid 7th century. The process of Islamization like many other subjects related to it, however, has been studied only through sources written by Muslims. Obviously there are sources written by Christians who commented on the same things. Among all the texts, which refer to Islamization of society, a chronicle written by a Syrian orthodox monk around 755 in the monastery of Zuqnin in the environs of Diyarbakır has a significant status. Objectives of this article are commenting on the information relating to Islamization process in this text and comparing this text with the other eastern Christian texts in order to construe an alternative perspective on Islamization.
