EXAMINING HISTORY WEB PAGES IN A CRITICAL VIEW IN HISTORY COURSES

Abstract

Internet is one of the important tools in the modern world which is being often used in schools. Especially, in history courses, history web pages are used to gather information for homework. Although Internet is one of the important tools in history courses, some of the history web pages used by student in history courses contain unreliable and false information. The reason why some students use unreliable web pages is examined it seems that students do not have adequate information about reliable and unreliable history web pages. The purpose of this paper is to describe how history web pages are examined in a critical way in the light of the related literature. Development in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) affects in all aspects of the human being. Today, Internet which is one of the main elements of ICT has entered in schools and education institutions. Teachers and students use Internet so often in education activities. As the history web pages used by students are examined, it seems that some of these web pages contain unreliable information. Some students in history courses use the information of unreliable web pages. As a result of this, these students learn history in the light of this unreliable information. For this reason, in history courses, students make non-scientific generalization based on unreliable information.
