Abstract

This study seeks to investigate the problems of the teachers covered in the national media outlets. Each year, November 24th is observed as teachers’ day in Turkey since 1981; for this reason, the papers publish reports and special issues on issues related to teachers. In this study, copies of highly circulated daily newspapers (Milliyet, Sabah, Hürriyet, Zaman, Radikal and Cumhuriyet) published on the 24th of November between 2000 and 2010. Employing a qualitative method and using content analysis the study intended to identify the enduring and current problems of teachers. The research bears significance as it will serve as a basis for identification and the solution of the teachers’ problems. In addition, the study will be used to identify the ways the published press handles teachers’ problems and provide possible venues that can be helpful for teachers.

BASINDA ÖĞRETMEN SORUNLARI

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, “24 Kasım”larda basına yansıyan öğretmensorunlarını betimlemektir. 24 Kasım, Türkiye’de 1981’den bu yana öğretmenlergünü olarak kutlanmaktadır. Bu özel günde basın, öğretmenleri konu alanhaber, yorum ve makalelere sayfalarında yer verebilmektedir. Bu araştırmada2000-2010 yılları arasında ulusal basından örneklem olarak seçilen Milliyet,Sabah, Hürriyet, Zaman, Radikal ve Cumhuriyet gazetelerinin 24 Kasım nüshaları taranarak içerik analizi yoluyla öğretmenlerin geleneksel ve güncel sorunları tanımlanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları öğretmen sorunlarının çözümüne ışıktutacağından önemlidir. Basının öğretmen sorunlarını nasıl ele aldığı ve olasıçözüm önerileri de böylece belirtilmiş olacaktır
