AN INVESTIGATION OF THE COMPUTER AND INTERNET ATTITUDE ON HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS (SAMPLE OF ERZINCAN)

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the computer and internet attitudes of the high school teachers as to gender, branch, seniority, type of institution graduated, computer ownership, having an internet connection at home. Also, the aim of this study is to find out whether computer attitude predict internet attitude or not. This study covers 518 high school teachers who work at high schools in Erzincan province during 2007-2008 school year. Computer Attitude Scale (BTÖ-M) provides an alpha of .9l, Internet Attitude Scale (İTÖ) provides an alpha of .78, and questionnaire for personnel information used to collect data. Computer attitude scores and internet attitude scores are found to be different by branch, seniority, type of institution graduated, having an internet connection at home. There is a meaningful difference between computer attitude scores according to gender and computer ownership, but there no meaningful difference between internet attitude scores. It is found that the computer attitude scores are capable of predicting the internet attitude scores. Teachers’ computer attitude scores can explain 25.8 % of their internet attitude scores.
