THE LEVELS IN THE GEOGRAPHICAL CONCEPTS OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER PROGRAMMES STUDENTS AND MEMORIZATION WITHOUT

Abstract

This research aimed at determining learning levels of geographical concepts of students studying primary school teaching program. For this purpose, a questionnaire was developed. The questionnaire was applied to 210 students who took part in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades students on the primary school teaching program in Rize Faculty of Education. Moreover, an open ended test related to geographical concepts was applied to a group of 75 of these students. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, ANOVA, scheffe test and chi square statistical techniques. The results of the study reveal that the students adopted the concept learning by memorization without comprehension in geography lessons. Therefore, they forgot most of concepts in further time. In addition, they confused some geographical concepts to one another.
