Effects of biostimulant applications on plant, yield, and some traditional fruit quality characteristics in some blackberry varieties grown in open fields

Öz

This research was carried out in the 2021-2022 growing season in the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Turgut Ozal University (MTU), Malatya in the open field using four blackberry cultivars (Chester, Jumbo, Bursa 2 and Navaho) with control, foliar Chitosan (CHI), Glycine betaine (GB); (Y_CHI-GB), soil Myo-inisitol (MI), foliar Chitosan (CHI) and Glycine betaine (GB); (T_MI+Y_CHI-GB), soil myo-inisitol (MI); (T_MI), foliar Chitosan (CHI); Y_CHI, foliar Glycine betaine (GB); (Y_GB). In the study, yield per plant, vegetative characteristics and some fruit quality traits of blackberry cultivars were evaluated. The highest yield per plant was obtained from the treatments Y_CHI-GB and T_MI+Y_CHI-GB (1418.8 and 1310.8 g/plant), while the Navaho variety (1508.1 g/plant) was obtained. Jumbo was the most prominent variety in terms of fruit weight, and Navaho was the most prominent variety in terms of TSS content. The study noted that biostimulant treatments were significantly more effective than the control treatment. Treatments accounted for 53.4% of the total variance in the studied traits, while cultivars accounted for 33.5%. The study clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of treatments and cultivars on the traits examined in open-field-grown blackberries. The results suggest that the use of appropriate cultivars and biostimulants on plant and fruit quality can minimize abiotic stress conditions and is also important for preventing fruit quality loss.
