Nosocomial Infections Agents and Change in Antimicrobial Resistance Between 2008-2011 Years in Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Unıversity Hospital
Öz
Aim: The widespread use of broad-spectrum antimicrobial drugs increases multidrug resistant microorganisms. The purpose of this study is detection of change of antibiotic resistance over the years.
Material and Method: In this study, between 1 January 2008 – 31 December 2011, change of resistance of nosocomial infection agents were investigated according to the results of the four-year surveillance report of nosocomial infections in Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University Hospital. Methicillin-resistant coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp (MRCNS), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL)-positive Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp, Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp (VRE), carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter spp strains were examined for the change of antimicrobial resistant.
Findings: At the end of the study, carbapenem resistance (Acinetobacter spp and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) was 0% in the 2008 and it was 15,96% in the 2011. ESBL resistance (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp) was 47,06% in 2008 and it was 85,71% in 2011. While prevalance of VRE in 2008 was 0% , it was 41,67% in 2011. Prevalance of MRCNS was %0 in 2008 and it was detected as 85,71% in 2011. Prevalance of MRSA was 100% in 2008 and it was 0% in 2011.
Conclusion: This study has demonstrated that widespread use of broad-spectrum antimicrobials in especially intensive care units causes increasing resistance problem. For the reduction of antimicrobial resistance is required implementation of infection control procedures and reduction of use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. Also all departments should work in harmony with infection control committee.
