The Synthesis of Trichloromelamine Cored Tripodal Molecule and Investigation of Transition Metal Complexes
Öz
In this study, a novel three-armed (tripodal) and hexadentate ligand with the structure 2,4,6-tri(hydroxyethylhydrazino)-1,3,5-triazine (TCMEA) was synthesized through the nucleophilic substitution reaction of trichloromelamine (TCM), selected as the starting material, with ethanolamine (EA). The capacity of the nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms present in the molecular structure of this synthesized ligand to form stable coordination compounds with transition metal ions was investigated in detail. For this purpose, the obtained TCMEA ligand was reacted under control conditions with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) acetate salts, and tripodal metal complexes with different physical properties and colors were synthesized. The reactions were carried out in suitable organic solvent media, and the resulting complexes were purified, isolated, and their synthesis yields were determined. Structural characterization of the synthesized ligand and metal complexes was performed using modern analytical and spectroscopic methods. The structure of the ligand was elucidated by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy techniques. The elemental analysis results showed complete agreement with the proposed molecular formula of the synthesized ligand. In the FT-IR spectrum, the characteristic bands corresponding to the –OH, –NH, and C=N groups in the structure were clearly observed, while the 13C NMR data supported the structure by confirming the chemical environments of the carbon atoms. In the investigation of the metal complexes, magnetic susceptibility measurements were utilized in addition to elemental analysis and FT-IR data. In the FT-IR analyses, shifts in the bands of the ligand donor groups proved the metal–ligand interaction and the occurrence of coordination. Magnetic measurements revealed the paramagnetic nature of the Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes, whereas the Zn(II) complex exhibited the expected diamagnetic character. As a result, it was determined that this hexadentate ligand forms stable complexes with transition metals and that these structures possess significant potential in fields such as catalysis, sensor systems, and biological applications.
