Associations Between Shift Work Attitudes, Work Motivation, Job Satisfaction, and Sleep Disturbance Among Manufacturing Workers
Öz
This study examined associations between attitudes toward shift work, work motivation, job satisfaction, and sleep disturbance among manufacturing employees working shifts. It employed a cross-sectional survey design and purposive sampling. The data were collected from approximately 380 shift workers in Konya, Turkiye. Participants completed a battery of self-report questionnaires assessing positive and negative shift work attitudes, work motivation, job satisfaction, and sleep difficulties. Correlational analyses indicated that more positive attitudes toward shift work were associated with higher work motivation and job satisfaction. Negative shift work attitudes also showed positive associations with job motivation and satisfaction. Increased sleep difficulties were associated with less positive work-related outcomes (lower motivation and job satisfaction) but was not significantly related to shift work attitudes. Given the cross-sectional and self-report nature of the data these findings should be interpreted cautiously and not as evidence of causality. Future research using longitudinal designs is needed to clarify mechanisms linking shift work experiences, sleep, and work-related outcomes.
