SHEAR STRENGTH OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS REINFORCED WITH TRANSVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL FRP BARS

In the present study, simplified empirical expressions for the shear capacity of FRP reinforced concrete beams with and without stirrups accounting for most influential parameters were proposed using a large database of 206 specimens collected from the literature. The equations of six existing design standards for shear capacity of FRP reinforced concrete beams have also been evaluated using the large database collected. The shear provision of ACI 440.1R-15 method for FRP reinforced concrete beams gave conservative predictions even without applying reduction factors. BISE model gave the most accurate results for the shear strength of FRP-reinforced concrete beams among the shear design standards. The proposed equations also gave more accurate results for shear capacity predictions for a wide range of FRP reinforced concrete beams than the shear design standards.
