GEOLOGY AND FORMATION OF VEIN TYPE CU ± ZN MINERALİZATIONS WHICH OBSERVED IN FAULT ZONES IN THE KARGI OPHIOLITIC MELANGE
Abstract
The
lithostratigraphic units of different origin are located to the east of and
around of Kargı (Corum) in the Central Pontides. The Bekirli formation, which
is represented by metamorphic rocks, forms the basis of the region. On this
basis, ophiolitic units come to overthrust as a result of the closure of the
Tethys ocean. In this area, which is also known as the Accretionary Complex,
the ophiolitic units are transitively designated as lateral and vertical units.
Vein-type Cu ± Zn mineralizations are observed in fault zones, which developed
within metadiabase and metabasalt belonging to Kargı Ophiolitic Melange. The
paragenesis includes chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, and pyrite minerals,
where hydrothermal alteration is also observed in the ore zones. The thickness
of the ore veins, which are observed as scattered and plastered, varies between
5 and 50 cm. In the geochemical analysis, Cu reached a maximum of 1162 ppm, and
Zn reached a maximum of 1753 ppm. The 34S isotope analyzes of pyrite
and chalcopyrite specimens are in the range of 2.70–7.02 ‰, indicating that the
sulfide indicates a magmatic root. In liquid inclusion studies, percent NaCl
salinity equivalents ranged from 4.96 to 18.22 and homogenization temperatures
(Th, °C) ranged from 113 to 233 °C. Based on our findings, it was determined
that mineralizations observed in the Kargı Ophiolitic Melange cause a vein type
hydrothermal bed that is associated with faulting.
