Photovoice-Based Research in Türkiye: A Scoping Review/ Türkiye'de Photovoice (Fotoses) Temelli Araştırmalar: Bir Kapsam Belirleme İncelemesi

Öz

Fotoses, katılımcıların kendi yaşam deneyimlerini fotoğraf ve anlatım aracılığıyla ifade etmelerini sağlayan bir araştırma yöntemidir. Bir katılımcı eylem araştırması olan bu yöntem, bireylerin bakış açılarını görünür kılarak toplumsal sorunların daha derinlemesine anlaşılmasına olanak tanımaktadır. Özellikle dezavantajlı grupların sesinin duyulmasında güçlü bir araç olarak kabul edilmektedir. Türkiye’de katılımcı deneyimlerini kapsamlı bir şekilde inceleyen araştırmaların sayısı sınırlı olduğundan, fotoses temelli çalışmaların sistematik olarak değerlendirilmesine ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, çalışma Türkiye’de 2014–2024 yılları arasında yürütülen fotoses temelli araştırmaların mevcut durumunu ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda, incelenen çalışmaların yöntemsel uygulamaları, disipliner dağılımı, katılımcı profilleri ve katılımcı eylem araştırması ilkeleriyle uyumu betimlenmiştir. Çalışma bir kapsam belirleme çalışmasıdır ve toplam 20 araştırma incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmalar 14 araştırma makalesi, 4 derleme makale ve 2 yüksek lisans tezinden oluşmaktadır. Veriler, betimleyici istatistikler ve içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular, Türkiye’de fotoses araştırmalarının 2020 sonrası belirgin bir artış gösterdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırmalar özellikle sağlık bilimleri, eğitim bilimleri ve kuramsal çalışmalarda uygulanmıştır. Katılımcılar arasında üniversite öğrencileri, sağlık çalışanları, sporcular ve kadınlar öne çıkmaktadır. Dezavantajlı gruplarla yapılan çalışmalar sınırlı olmakla birlikte, mevcut çalışmalar katılımcıların deneyimlerini anlamlı biçimde görünür kılmayı başarmaktadır. Çalışmaların çoğunda fotosesin doğasında bulunan çok aşamalı süreçler kullanılmıştır. Ancak katılımcıların analiz ve yorum süreçlerine katılımının sınırlı olduğu söylenebilir. Buna karşın, bazı çalışmalar katılımcılarla etkileşimli tartışmalar yürütmüş ve yöntemin esnek ve uyarlanabilir olduğunu göstermiştir. Çalışmaların etik süreçleri genel olarak güçlü olup, çoğunda etik kurul onayı, bilgilendirilmiş onam ve gizlilik sağlanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, fotoses yöntemi Türkiye’de katılımcı deneyimlerini görünür kılmada etkili bir araç olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Araştırmacılar yöntemi giderek daha yaratıcı ve katılımcı odaklı biçimde kullanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, katılımcı katılımının artırılması, güç paylaşımı ve toplumsal etki boyutlarının geliştirilmesi ile metodolojik titizlik ve savunuculuk odaklı uygulamaların sistematik entegrasyonu önerilmektedir.Anahtar kelimeler: Fotoses, katılımlı eylem araştırması, nitel araştırma

Öz

Photovoice is a research method that enables participants to express their experiences through photography and narration. As a participatory action research approach, it makes individuals’ perspectives visible, facilitating a deeper understanding of social issues and amplifying the voices of disadvantaged groups. In Turkey, studies comprehensively examining participant experiences are limited, highlighting the need for a systematic evaluation of photovoice research. This study aims to reveal the status of photovoice research conducted in Turkey between 2014 and 2024. Methodological practices, disciplinary distribution, participant profiles, and alignment with participatory action research principles were described. A total of 20 studies were reviewed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. These studies consist of 14 research articles, 4 review articles, and 2 master’s theses. Findings show a marked increase in photovoice research in Turkey after 2020, mainly in health sciences, education, and theoretical studies. Participants included university students, healthcare workers, athletes, and women. Although studies with disadvantaged groups were limited, existing research effectively made participant experiences visible. Most studies followed photovoice’s multi-stage processes, though participant involvement in analysis was limited. Some studies conducted interactive discussions, demonstrating the method’s flexibility. Ethical procedures were generally strong, with most studies securing ethical approval, informed consent, and confidentiality. In conclusion, photovoice is an effective tool for making participant experiences visible in Turkey. Researchers increasingly apply it creatively and participant-centered. Enhancing participant involvement, power-sharing, social impact, and systematically integrating methodological rigor with advocacy-oriented practices are recommended.
