Öz

Osmanlı tarihinin son yarım yüzyılına damgasın ı vuran Sultan ll. Abdülhamid ve hüküm sürdüğü dönemin siyasi, iktisadi, sosyal ve entellektüel cepheleri yerli ve yabancı tarihçilerio araştırmaları ile her geçen gün daha fazla aydınlığa kavuşuyor. Iki kutba ayrılm ş amatör tarihçiler ve demagoglar tarafından fazlası ile sömürülmüş bu dönemin, işin ehli tarafından anlaşılınaya ve aniatılmaya başlanması gerçekten de sevinilecek bir gelişme olarak kabul edilebilir. ll. Abdülhamid dönemi üzerinde çalışmalan uzun bir süreden beri devam eden Prof. Dr. Selim Deringil de, geçtiğimiz sene içinde yayınladığı monografik çalışması ile bu dönem hakkındaki literatüre önemli bir katk ı yaptı. Ilgisini Osmanlı Devleti'ni idare edenlerin zihnl arka planına inmeye ve görünürde olan resmi devlet ideolojisinin görünmeyen yüzünü açığa çıkarmaya yoğunlaştıran Prof. Deringil'in kitabı, sekiz bölümden oluşuy
