Öz

Akademik tarih çalı~maları içinde Bizans tarihi araştırmalannın çok önemli bir yeri vardır. Köklü bir geleneğe sahip olan ve temel metodik ve terminolojik meselelerini çözmü~ görünen bu saha, bugün de özellikle Avrupa ve Amerika'da yüksek bir itibara sahiptir. Üniversitelerdeki Bizantinoloji kürsüleri y_anında, resmi ve gayrı resmi bir çok enstitü ve bilimsel ara~tırma amaçlı vakıf Bizans tarihçilerini diğer meslekda~larına oranla daha avantajlı kılmaktadır. Mezkur kurulu~­ ların verdikleri destek ile sık diyebileceğimiz sürelerle toplanan milletlerarası çe- ~itli Bizantinoloji toplantıları, gerek mevcut yayınların ve araştırmaların gözde!'\ geçirilmesi gerekse yeni meselelerio ortaya konulmasınoa önemli bir rol oynamaktadır.
