HISTORICAL LITERACY SKILLS IN TURKİSH HİSTORY CURRİCULUM

Abstract

This study that aims to define at what level historical literacy is focused on in the development process of history curricula in Turkey is a descriptive analysis depending on qualitative research methods. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the data. The most remarkable discovery coming from the result of the study is that historical literacy abilities that reflect high level thinking abilities are given the importance that it deserves in the history curriculums, so the curricula should be reviewed in order to educate the students so that they can became historical literate. It has determined that although the history departments’ curricula on the basis of classes have rich content in terms of learning and event numbers about the first five dimensions of historical literacy the other skills are not taken into account so much in the curriculum development process
