Comparison of the Islamic Conference Member Countries via Data Envelopment Analysis and TOPSIS Method
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to analyse the relative efficiencies of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries for the years 2013 using sociodemographic and economic variables. The efficiencies of OIC member countries have been evaluated with three models as socioeconomic, economic and sociodemographic. The analyses have been performed using DEA and TOPSIS method.
According to analysis results, it has been observed that UAE, Bahrain, Benin, Brunei, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Qatar, Comoros, Maldives, Malaysia and Suriname is technical and pure technical efficient in three models while the other countries are not. Turkey is not technical and pure technical efficient in socioeconomic and economic models while it is technical and pure technical efficient in sociodemographic model. Under weight restrictions, UAE, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, the Gambia, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Oman are technical and pure technical efficient in socioeconomic and sociodemographic model. Qatar is only efficient in economic model on the other hand with the participation of Benin and Brunei they have become pure technical efficient. Under weight restrictions, it has been established that Turkey is not technical and pure technical efficient in three models.
Qatar takes the first place in three models in AHP weighted TOPSIS method. Mauritania, Yemen and Nigeria take last place respectively in socioeconomic, economic and sociodemographic models. Turkey takes 42nd place in socioeconomic model, 30th in economic model and 8th in sociodemographic model in TOPSIS method.
