Since it will be difficult to teach the intended vocabulary of the language at once, it is preferred to make the students acquire it gradually. One of the criteria of the vocabulary teaching is that the words which can easily be combined should be taught primarily. Therefore, the main aim of the survey is to determine thousand words that belong to this group. The tenth press of Turkish Language Association Dictionary that was published in 2005 is the basis for this survey. All the headwords in the dictionary were scanned and the number of compound words which were derived from a word was alphabetically ordered. According to the survey, the headwords which can derive seven compound words at least are among the first thousand words. The number of compound words that these kinds of headwords derive is 17985. When first thousand words are classified according to conceptual field, they are related to various fields, on the other hand, when they are analyzed in terms of their basic lexis, they are thought to be among the basic words for human. When compared with other surveys, it is seen that they are the words which are frequently used and are suitable for the children of 0-11 age group
