Science, Engineering and Entrepreneurship Practices: Activity of Designing a Lighting Tool to Reduce Light Pollution and Students Views About This Activity

Öz

Within the scope of the study, the students were given a problem situation in which they can use their entrepreneurial skills by designing an original lighting tool by producing solutions to reduce light pollution. It is aimed that students find creative and innovative solutions to the given problem situation, transform their solutions into designs, and create products and develop these products by developing entrepreneurship strategies. Case study method was used in the study process. The activity, which consists of six stages, was conducted with 19 students studying in the seventh grade. Within the scope of the study, data was collected using the interview form and the worksheet. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. During the activity, it was determined that the students had problems in converting the products they designed in their minds into models. It was determined that the students were completely free in the activity process and satisfied with the entrepreneurship dimension involved in the activity. The students completed the activity with high motivation during the activity and stated that they wanted such activities to be applied in all science subjects. Considering the objectives of the curriculum, it is recommended to use this activity by teachers. In addition, it is recommended to develop and apply such activities more in order to improve students' science, engineering and entrepreneurship skills.
