The Contribution of Demographic Dynamics to Regional Growth Performance: An Analysis of NUTS-2 Regions in Turkey
Öz
This study investigates the impact of demographic transformation on regional growth performance across Turkey’s NUTS-2 regions. Using TURKSTAT data for 2007-2023, per capita income was decomposed into labor productivity, employment rate, and demographic dividend to examine convergence trends and their contributions to growth. The findings indicate that after 2015, growth became increasingly productivity-driven, while employment- and demography-based convergence persisted in several regions. The study reveals that two distinct demographic regimes coexist in Turkey and emphasizes that this divergence must be carefully considered in the design of regional development policies.
