The Role of John Nelson Darby in the Transfer of Christian Zionism to America

This study examines the transfer of Zionist ideas, which arose in the context of British Protestantism, to the USA, with a special emphasis on the pivotal role played by John Nelson Darby. The aim of the study is to provide insights into the origins of the Christian Zionist approach that has gained prominence in American politics in recent times. The main question is: “What is the significance and influence of John Nelson Darby in the development of Christian Zionist ideas in the United States?” Firstly, I will summarize John Nelson Darby’s life, followed by an exploration of his contributions to the development of Christian Zionism in the USA. Lastly, I will situate Darby’s views in today’s Christian Zionism movement.

Hıristiyan Siyonizminin Amerika'ya İntikalinde John Nelson Darby'nin Rolü

Öz

Bu çalışma Protestanlık içinde gelişen Siyonist fikirlerin ABD’ye taşınma sürecini, bu sürecin önemli aktörlerinden biri olan John Nelson Darby özelinde ele almaktadır. Çalışmada Amerika’da gelişen ve son yıllarda Amerikan siyasetinde ağırlığını daha çok hissettiren Hıristiyan Siyonist yaklaşımın kökenine ışık tutmak amaçlanmış, bu çerçevede İngiliz Kilisesi içinde yetişen Darby’nin ABD’ye yaptığı yolculuklarla taşıdığı fikirlerin muhtevasına ve günümüz Hıristiyan siyonizmi açısından önemine ışık tutulması hedeflenmektedir. Dolayısıyla çalışmanın temel sorusu “Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde gelişen Hıristiyan Siyonist fikirlerin gelişmesinde John Nelson Darby’nin önemi ve etkisi nedir?” olarak tasarlanmıştır. Bu minvalde öncelikle John Nelson Darby’nin yaşamının belli başlı uğrak noktalarına değinilecek, ardından Darby’nin Hıristiyan siyonizmi olarak tanımlanan olgunun ABD’de gelişmesine nasıl katkı sunduğu ortaya konacak son olarak Darby’nin görüşlerinin günümüz Hıristiyan siyonizmindeki yerine değinilecektir.
