Petrology, Geochemistry and Geochronology of the Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex Metamorphic Rocks: Kırşehir (Karıncalı), Central Anatolia, Turkey

Abstract

The basement of the Karncalı village represented by metamorphic rock units in Central Anatolia Crystalline Complex (CACC). The basement units mainly comprise greenschist facies which is apart of CACC. The basement consists of amphibolite, gneiss, quartzschist, micaschist, amphibolschist quartz micaschist, quartzite, calcschist and marble rock units. All the metamorphic basement intruded by syenite, syenite porphry trachyte and trachyandesite. The nomenclature of garnet, amphibole and plagioclase minerals were determined by confocal Raman spectroscopy. The detailed petrography and Confocal Raman Spectrometer (CRS) examinations reveal that the common mineral assemblages are clino-amphibole + plagioclase + titanite, clinoamphibole + clinozoisite + epidote + plagioclase + titanite, garnet amphibolschist mineral assemblage clinoamphibole + bioamphile + tite ± garnet, actinolite + tremolite + chlorite + quartz, calcite + quartz + muscovite and also sericite + quartz + graphite in composition. The radiomatrica 39Ar/40Ar age data of Muscovite reveal 71.83±0.54 Ma age. It has been determined that the metamorphic age is younger or similar to the age of intrusive of the CACC. The young age of the metamorphic shows that the intrusive masses in the region significantly affect the existing country rock units throughout the geological time, causing them to re-metamorphize and reactivate the time period in terms of metamorphism. It was concluded that felsic and mafic magmatic intrusions of many different compositions and sizes in the Central Anatolian region started from the Late Cretaceous and continued until the Palaeocene and also affected the basic metamorphic rocks of the region.
