Biotic factors that cause yield and quality loss in plant production pose a threat to global food security. Most of the pathogens originating from fungi, bacteria and viruses, which are among these biotic factors, have been believed for many years to be non-pathogenic in humans or animals. In this context, it has been concluded that the pH level of approximately 2 in the stomach of humans and animals, and the plant pathogen microorganisms taken in by consuming plant tissues, may be an important defense mechanism that makes it difficult for living beings to survive in the digestive system. However, in recent years, some evidence has been put forward that some pathogens that cause diseases in plants can also cause diseases in healthy individuals, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems. In addition, the role of plant products in the spread of many human or animal pathogens as if they were an intermediate host increases the importance and concerns of the subject. Due to the insufficient scientific studies in this field, this review has been prepared to draw attention to the subject.
