Financial Structure and Management Practices of Veterinary Clinics in Türkiye: Preliminary Findings

Öz

Veterinary clinics play a critical role in animal health, public health, and the veterinary services sector, yet limited research has focused on their financial structures. This preliminary study aims to determine the financial management structures and needs of veterinary clinics in Türkiye. The material of the study consisted of data obtained through the data supply form from 35 veterinary clinics in various provinces of Türkiye in 2024. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data. The average operating period of clinics was determined as 7.26 years. When the pre-project financial management of the clinics was examined, it was determined that 54.29% of clinics carried out feasibility studies. Investment financing resources are covered by 42.86% equity capital, 28.57% bank loan and 28.57% both bank loan and equity capital. While, the 11.43% of clinics receive financial consultancy services, 51.25% of clinics do not use any software for financial records/analysis and stock control. Subgroup analysis revealed that highly experienced clinics (>10 years) had the highest financial success rate (50%), income diversity (4.25), and financial software usage (75%). Among the strategies implemented by veterinary clinics to improve their financial performance: new investments, patient loyalty, advertising, social media use, cost control, technology and information tracking, etc., has been observed. These preliminary findings underline the importance of financial planning, technology use, and operational experience in improving the financial performance of veterinary clinics. Supporting financial literacy and access to tools and consultancy services may enhance the economic sustainability of the sector.
