Effect of Layer Configuration and Particle Interlayers on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites

Öz

This study investigates the development and characterization of carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composites, with a focus on lightweight design optimization for drone body applications. Laminates with different fiber layer configurations were fabricated using the hand lay-up technique and tested in accordance with ISO 527-2 for tensile strength, ISO 180 for impact resistance, as well as mass and thickness measurements. The results indicate that varying the layer configuration has a significant effect on the balance between mechanical strength and weight reduction, which is critical for aerial vehicle performance. To enhance polymerization efficiency and improve the overall material properties, curing was carried out both at room temperature and under thermal conditions. The findings provide valuable insights into the design–performance relationship of carbon fiber/epoxy composites, highlighting their potential for advanced lightweight structural applications.
