Examining The Mediating Roles of Organizational Commitment and Safety Motivation in The Relationship Between Safety Climate and Safety Performance: A Study on Electricity Sector Employees

Öz

This study aims to examine the relationships between safety climate, organizational commitment, safety motivation, and safety performance, and to assess whether organizational commitment plays a mediating role in these relationships. The research sample consists of 455 employees working in the electricity transmission and distribution sector in Türkiye. Data were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM), and the relationships among sub-dimensions were tested through correlation and path analysis. Findings indicate that safety climate has both direct and indirect effects on safety motivation and safety performance, while safety motivation plays a key role in enhancing performance. Although no direct effect was found between organizational commitment and safety performance, an indirect relationship was identified through safety motivation. This study provides sector-specific empirical insights into the connection between occupational safety and organizational factors, contributing to the literature by addressing existing gaps in understanding how organizational variables influence safety behaviours in high-risk industries.
