An Examination of Postgraduate Theses on the Concept of Light in Science Education in Türkiye

Öz

The concept of light is an important research topic in the field of science education because it explains the functioning of the sense of vision and forms the basis of optical technologies. In this study, postgraduate theses on the concept of light within the scope of science course in Turkey between January 2015 and December 2025 were analysed by document analysis method. A total of 91 theses were reached by using the keywords ‘light’, ‘light unit’, ‘light subject’ and ‘interaction of light with matter’ in the National Thesis Centre database. Theses were analysed in terms of publication year, publication type, university, department, research method, keywords, study population and participants. The findings show that the most intensive theses were published in 2024, mostly conducted in the departments of Mathematics and Science Education, and mostly focused on the 7th grade level. In addition, it was determined that the keywords academic achievement, attitude and motivation were commonly used. It is thought that the results obtained will contribute to the researchers to see the trends and gaps in the literature more clearly; especially considering the limited studies at the doctoral level, the lack of studies at the 3rd, 4th and 6th grade levels, and the scarcity of studies addressing current educational approaches, it is thought that it will be a guide for future research.
