ALAHAN'DA (ISAURYA) BİR ROMA KENTİNİN KEŞFİ

Öz

Göksu Arkeoloji Projesi 2002-2006 yılları arasında Mut’un kuzeyinde, Alahan’da gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu projenin parçası olarak Alahan modern yerleşimi detaylı olarak incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma sonucunda burada bir küçük yerleşim, belki de bir şehir olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Bu yerleşim kuleli bir sur tarafından korunmaktaydı. Bu çevrili alanda üç, belki bir tane de nekropol’de olmak üzere dört kilise bulunmuştur. Yerleşimden elde edilen seramik hellenistik dönem ile Ortaçağ arasındaki tüm dönemlere işaret etmiş ama ağırlıklı olarak Roma dönemine ait oldukları tesbit edilmiştir. Mimari ise ağırlıklı olarak M.S. 5. ve 6. yüzyıllara işaret etmekle beraber M.S. erken 2 ve 3. yüzyıllara ait yapılar da görülmüştü

The Discovery of a Roman Settlement in Alahan (in Isauria)

Öz

The Göksu Archaeological Project carried out survey work north of Mut at Alahan between 2002 and 2006, including examination of the modern village of Alahan in detail. This study revealed a small urban site, perhaps a city, protected by a wall with protruding towers. Three churches stood in the walled area and perhaps another in the necropolis. The ceramics at the site date to periods between the late Hellenistic era and the medieval period, though most are from the late Roman period. The architecture, on the other hand, is mostly 5th and 6th century, though some 2nd- or 3rd-century sarcophagi were found.
