Factors affecting farmers’preferences in choice of cotton seed in Söke district of Aydın province

Öz

The aim of this study is to determine which features are considered by the cotton producers along with their socio-economic characteristics at the time of purchase of cotton seeds in Soke District of Aydın Province. In other words, this study was planned to investigate which the following features such as price, yield, gin productivity, fibre quality, early harvesting and disease resistance are considered by the producers on their seed preference. It is important to know the seed preferences of cotton producers, before developing new domestic cotton varieties alternative to foreign cotton seeds which have become widespread in the region in recent years. Conjoint analysis method was used to determine the producers’ seed preferences. Conjoint analysis is one of the methods commonly used in marketing researches to determine the preferences of consumers. The material of the study was the primary data belonging to the production of the year 2015 obtained by interviewing cotton producers in Söke District. The proportional sample method was used to calculate sampling size. The sample volume was calculated as 95 % confidence interval and 10 % error margin according to the proportional sample volume formula. In terms of convenience, 5 more producers were added and negotiations with 100 producers were found to be suitable. The ten highest cotton-producing villages, where the interviews to be conducted, were selected from the Farmer Registration System - ÇKS). According to the results of the study, the preference card rankings of 100 producers and their partial benefit scores for each feature level were obtained. According to this analysis, it was determined that the first factor considered more by the producers in cotton seed variety preference was gin productivity with a rate of 21.31 %. The second most important factor was the seed price, having a rate of 18.69 %. It was recommended that cottonseed producers and institutions, which work on the development of new varieties, focus on especially gin efficiency. In this context, maintaining the certified seed support with respect to cottonseed is also important for the certified seed use of the producer.

Aydın ili Söke ilçesinde pamuk üreticilerinin tohum tercihlerini etkileyen faktörler

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Aydın ili Söke ilçesindeki pamuk üreticilerinin sosyo-ekonomik özellikleri ile birlikte pamuk tohumu satın almada hangi özellikleri dikkate aldıklarını belirlemektir. Bir başka ifade ile üreticilerin pamuk tohumu satın alırken fiyat, verim, çırçır randımanı, lif kalitesi, erkencilik ve hastalıklara dayanıklılık gibi özelliklerden hangilerini dikkate aldıklarını belirlemektir. Son yıllarda, yabancı menşeli pamuk tohumu çeşitlerinin yörede hızla yayılması nedeniyle, ülkemizde bu çeşitlere alternatif yerli çeşitlerin geliştirilmesi için üreticilerin tercihlerinin belirlenmesi önemlidir. Üreticilerin tohum tercihlerinin belirlenmesinde Konjoint analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Konjoint analizi özellikle tüketicilerin tercih özelliklerini belirlemek için pazarlama araştırmalarında çok sık kullanılan yöntemlerden birisidir. Araştırmanın materyalini Söke İlçesinde pamuk üreten üreticilerden anket yolu ile elde edilen 2015 üretim yılına ait birincil veriler oluşturmaktadır. Söke ilçesinde görüşülen üretici sayısının belirlenmesinde oransal örnek hacmi yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Oransal örnek hacmi formülüne göre %90 güven aralığı ve % 10 hata payı ile örnek hacmi hesaplanmış ve 100 üretici ile görüşülmüştür. Görüşülen üreticilerin seçileceği köylerin belirlenmesinde Çiftçi Kayıt Sisteminden (ÇKS) yararlanılmış ve  en çok pamuk üretilen 10 köy belirlenmiştir.  Çalışma sonuçlarına göre; 100 üreticinin tercih kartları sıralaması sonucunda her bir özellik düzeyine ilişkin kısmi fayda skorları elde edilmiştir. Buna göre üreticilerin pamuk tohum çeşit tercihlerinde en çok önemsedikleri ilk faktörün % 21.31'lik bir oran ile çırçır randımanı olduğu belirlenmiştir. İkinci sırada önem verilen faktör % 18.69'luk oranla tohum fiyatıdır. Pamuk üreticilerinin tohum tercihinde önemli olan faktörler dikkate alındığında pamuk tohumu üreten ve çeşit geliştirme araştırmaları yapan kuruluşların özellikle çırçır randımanı üzerine yoğunlaşmaları önerilmektedir. Bu kapsamda pamuk tohumuna yönelik sertifikalı tohum desteğinin de devam ettirilmesi üreticinin sertifikalı tohum kullanımı açısından önemlidir.
