Addiction Prevention Studies Based on Individual Psychology (Adlerian Approach): The Significance of Social Interest Practices in Schools

Yıl 2021, Cilt: 4 Sayı: 2, 1 - 22, 30.12.2021

Öz

Individual Psychology (Adlerian Approach) is a holistic and goal-oriented theory that involves important suggestions for community mental health, parenting, education, and counseling practices. The theory also provides valuable contributions to the conceptualization of addiction, prevention, and interventions. As one of the main concepts of the theory, social interest has significant implications on school-based practices. This review aims to address the addiction problem in line with the concept of social interest. In addition, school-based social interest practices in the literature are outlined and practices that can be applied by educators and school counselors are discussed.
