A Literature Review Study on The Most Used Defense Mechanisms of The Children Who Are Exposed to Neglect and Emotional Abuse By Parents Attitudes
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present the analysis and synthesis processes of the defense mechanisms used by children who live emotional conflict in their mind because of the parents' attitudes and behaviors that cause neglect and emotional abuse on children. Various theses, articles, books and all the knowledge and experiences learned so far have been included in the scope of the study and there were analyzed on the basis of findings from these studies. The first years of childhood which is 0-6 age group is included in this study. The common aspect of all studies involved in literature review study is the attainment of parental attitudes, whether consciously or unconsciously, that adversely affect children. Negative attitudes, emotional neglect and exploitation that children face in the opposite direction of love, approval and value are seen to have an adverse impact on the defense mechanisms they use unconsciously. This research is aimed to shed light on the impact of emotional neglect and abuse of destructive parental attitudes on defense mechanisms and their associated self-esteem and emotional development in order to overcome internal conflicts in children.
