The Knowledge of Nursing Department Students about Human Papilloma Virus and Vaccine
Abstract
The aim of this study
was to determine the level of knowledge about Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and
vaccine of nursing students and to raise awareness. The research is
descriptive. 216 students enrolled in the 1st and 4th grades of the nursing
department of Dumlupınar University Kütahya School of Health participated in
the study. A questionnaire form consisting of questions about socio-demographic
characteristics, HPV and vaccination of the students formed by the researchers
as a result of the literature search was used to collect the data. The data
were evaluated by SPSS 21 package program. The mean age of the students was
20.66 ± 2.60 years, 79.6% were female and 20.4% were male. It was determined
that 67.6% of the students heard about HPV and 47.7% of them received HPV and
42.6% of them received information about HPV vaccine. It has been seen that the
students mostly get this information by their instructors in school education.
Students' knowledge about HPV and vaccine with the average score in the class,
where they live, sexual health related issues in the family, the situation of
sexual health and sexually transmitted infections and knowledge about the
situation and previously learned between HPV hearing and information the
difference was determined. Nearly half of the students received information
about HPV and their vaccination, but their knowledge level was not sufficient.
