Psychological counseling and guidance workers and
academics have stressed that for many years, the job description of counseling
department has not been clear. This situation may cause difficulty in defining
the professional identities of both the students of PDR department and those
working in the field. The field of psychological counseling and guidance is an
area that deals with the mental health of individuals, enables them to know
themselves and supports their development. Therefore, it is more important for
individuals who choose this profession to configure their careers and to adapt
to their career in order to provide service efficiently and effectively than
individuals who have more clear job descriptions and who are more accepted in
our country. In this study, career adaptability of counseling department
students was examined in terms of career construction approach. In order to
collect data, a total of 296 students from the faculty of education were
administered the Personal Information Form, Career Adaptability
Scale and Career Construction Inventory. Independent sample t test, Pearson
product moment correlation and multiple regression analysis were used for data
analysis. As a result of the analysis significant relationship was found
between the variables as a result of the analysis. However, it was found that
the crystallizing and deciding sub-dimensions of the career construction
inventory predicted career adaptability by 36%. It is thought that the
implementation of career counseling programs based on career construction
approach can be effective in increasing career adaptability of counseling students.
