Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between serum gamma glutamyl transferase enzyme level and early diagnosis of acute renal injury due to sepsis in intensive care units.

Material and Methods: A total of 251 subjects were included in this retrospective study. 134 patients with sepsis-induced acute kidney injury were included in group 1 and 117 healthy volunteers in group 2.

Results: Serum gamma glutamyl transferase enzyme levels was found higher in patients with sepsis-induced acute renal injury than healthy volunteers. There was no significant difference between the groups according to Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN) staging (p=0.09).

Conclusion: High serum gamma glutamyl transferase enzyme levels may be used in early detection of acute renal injury in patients with sepsis.
