Tarih; Veri Yığınına, Tarihçi; Tarih Mühendisine mi Dönüşecek? Teknolojinin Getirdiği İmkânlara Temkinli Bakmak

Öz

Dijitalleşme ve büyük veri (big data) günümüzde muazzam bir tesir gücüyle fertleri ve toplumları önce değiştiren sonrasında trajik bir biçimde dönüştüren bir vakıadır. Teknolojik tekamülün temin ettiği konfor avantajları, verimlilik ve hız mevzu bahis olduğunda dikkate değer ilerlemeler sağlarken, beri taraftan bu gidişat insanı fert olmaktan çıkarıp sadece bir veri mesabesine indirgeme tehlikesini de içinde barındırmaktadır. Bu zaviyeden bakıldığında, dijitalleşmenin ontolojisinde mevcut toptancılık, ferdin tecrübelerini ve ahlakî mesuliyet alanını yok sayarak aslında “insanın” nev’i şahsına münhasır özelliklerini iptal ve tehdit eden bir varoluş arz etmektedir. Yani “insan” “şey”leşmektedir. Esasen tarihin öznesinden tarihin nesnesine dönüşüm bir gerileme olarak anlaşılmalıdır.

Will History Turn into a Data Heap, and the Historian into a History Engineer? A Cautious Approach to the Opportunities Brought by Technology

Abstract

Digitalization and big data exert an immense influence in contemporary society, first altering individuals and communities and subsequently transforming them in a profoundly disruptive manner. While the comfort, efficiency, and speed afforded by technological advancements have led to remarkable progress, this trajectory simultaneously harbors the peril of reducing human beings from autonomous individuals to mere data points. From this perspective, the inherent totalizing nature of digitalization disregards individual experiences and moral responsibility, ultimately presenting an existential threat to the unique attributes that define "humanity." In other words, the human being is undergoing a process of "reification"—a transformation into an object. Fundamentally, the shift from the subject of history to the object of history should be understood as a regression.
