Our study is the 2nd phase of the World Health Organization (WHO) PREMISE ((Prevention of Recurrences of Myocardial Infarction and Stroke) project. In the 1st phase of the project which is a case study of the secondary prevention of the cardiovascular diseases, there was a lack of information observed fort he doctor and patients. The aim is to overcome the lack of information and verify the impact of this secondary prevention and to achieve to the data fort he secondary prevention of MI and stroke which couldn’t be investigated before. In our study doctors working in Eskişehir and surrounding 1st stage health facilities were trained with an interactive training program and there were seminars organised for the patients. Formal written informed consent was taken from 355 patients which had myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke within a 1-36 months period and who applied to the hospitals of Eskişehir. The cases in the study were as; 53,8% (n=191) male, with an average age of 62,63±11,05 years. Coronary artery disease (CAD) was observed in 79,7% (n=283) of the cases, and cerebrovascular disease (CVD) observed in 21,4%(n=76) of the cases. In 1,1% (n=4) CAD and CVD were observed both. In the post-training evaluation, the information of the patients increased regarding the required life-style change for the secondary prevention if compared to the 1st phase study. Although quitting smoking and diet was considerably applied, 1/3 of the patients haven’t done enough physical exercises. In the post-training evaluation an increase of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), beta blocker and statin usage rate was observed compared to phase 1.
