The incidence of oral cancers has increased over time in most countries, particularly in developing countries. Oral cancers are the seventh most common cancer, and have a significantly high mortality rate. Therefore, oral cancer awareness of dentists is a crucial issue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of oral and maxillofacial surgery clinical internship on the oral cancer awareness of fourth- grade students in Uşak University Faculty of Dentistry. A total of 55 fourth-grade students who have received theoretical training in oral diseases were included in this study. Questionnaire of oral cancer awareness consists of 13 questions under 3 titles including risk factors, diagnostic procedures, and clinical procedures. NCSS program was used for statistical analysis of the study. Thirty two students (58.2%) who participated in the questionnaire of oral cancer awareness have not completed their oral and maxillofacial surgery clinical internship, and 23 (41.8%) students have completed clinical internship. There was a significant relation between completing the clinical internship and giving correct answers to the questions ‘’Which is the precursor lesion of oral cancers?’’ and ‘’Is there a relationship between nutritional habits and oral cancer?’’ (p<0.05). ‘’Does UV have an effect on cancer formation?’’ and ‘’What is the most common form of oral cancer?’’ questions were answered correctly by all of the students.: In this study, it was seen that co-ordination of practical and theoretical education as a methtodology is vitally important about the awareness of oral cancers.
