Pandemi Döneminde İntörn Hemşire Öğrenci Olmak: Kadın Doğum Kliniklerinde Uygulama Yapan Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Deneyimleri

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinde kadın doğum kliniklerinde uygulama yapan intörn hemşirelik öğrencilerinin deneyimlerinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Çalışma, Türkiye’nin kuzeyinde bir üniversitenin Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik bölümünde gerçekleştirilmiştir. “Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Hemşireliği İntörn Uygulama Dersi” ni alan ve yaz döneminde kadın doğum kliniklerinde uygulama yapan son sınıf intörn öğrencileri ile fenomenolojik desenli, tanımlayıcı tipte niteliksel bir araştırma olarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırma verileri, Google Meet uygulaması üzerinden online video konferans şeklinde 31/08/2021 tarihinde tek odak grup görüşmesi yapılarak toplanmış ve betimsel analiz yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Elde edilen verilerin analizinde Öğrencilerin “klinik uygulama yapacaklarını ilk öğrendiklerinde hissettikleri” ve “klinik uygulama sırasında hissettikleri” olmak üzere iki ana tema ortaya çıkmıştır. “Klinik uygulama yapacaklarını öğrendiklerinde hissettikleri” temasında; “fırsat”, “korku ve belirsizlik” alt temaları; “klinik uygulama sırasında hissettikleri” temasında ise “korku”, “güven ve farkındalık”, “bakım bilinci” ve “ekip dayanışması” alt temaları belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırma sonucunda pandemi sürecinde intörn öğrenci hemşirelerin kadın doğum dersi kapsamında klinik uygulama yapabilmeyi fırsat olarak düşündükleri, uygulamaların mesleki gelişimlerini desteklediği, ancak enfeksiyonu bulaştırma korkusu ve pandemi sürecine ilişkin belirsizlik yaşadıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu bağlamda pandemi kaynaklı klinik uygulamalara ilişkin alternatif planlamaların ve telafilerin, öğrencilerin duygu, düşünceleri ve deneyimleri dikkate alınarak beceri gelişimini yeterli şekilde destekler nitelikte yapılması önerilmektedir.

Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the experiences of intern nursing students who practice in obstetrics clinics during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study was carried out in the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of a university located in the north of Turkey. It was conducted as a descriptive type of research with a phenomenological pattern with senior intern students who took the "Gynecology and Obstetrics Nursing Intern Practice Course" and practiced in obstetrics clinics in the summer. The research data were collected by means of focus group interviews in the form of online video conferences over Google Meet on 31/08/2021 and evaluated by descriptive analysis method. Results: Two main themes emerged as students' "feelings when they first learned that they would do clinical practice" and "what they felt during clinical practice". In the theme of what they feel when they learn that they will do clinical practice; “opportunity”, “fear and uncertainty” sub-themes; the sub-themes of "fear", "trust and awareness", "care consciousness" and "team collaboration" were determined in the theme of what they felt during clinical practice. Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was revealed that during the pandemic process, intern student nurses thought of being able to practice clinical practice within the scope of the obstetrics course as an opportunity, the practices supported their professional development, but they experienced fear of contagion and uncertainty about the pandemic process. In this context it is recommended that alternative plans and compensations for clinical practices originating from the pandemic should be made in a way that adequately supports the skill development of students, considering their feelings, thoughts and experiences.
