Method: This descriptive study was conducted on 223 nurses working at the a foundation university hospital. Research data were collected using the “Nurse Descriptive Information Form” and “Mental Health Promotion Scale”. The data obtained in the research were evaluated in computer environment utilising SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance (Anova) and post hoc (Tukey, LSD) analyzes were used to analyze the data.
Results: It was determined that nurses received 187.9±25.7 points from the "Mental Health Promotion Scale". The mental health promotion scale score of those who took initiatives to improve their mental health (x=190.9±25.3) was found to be significantly higher than those who did nothing (x=180.8±25.3) (t=2.760; p=0.006<0.05; d=0.400; η2=0.033). When the activities of nurses to improve their mental health are examined, 64.3% listen to music, 53.9% watch TV series/movies, 52.6% walk, 50% worship, 26.6% exercise and 11% do yoga and meditating.
