The Relationship Between Nurses’ Attitudes towards Evidence-Based Nursing and their Professional Values
Öz
Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses' attitudes towards evidence-based nursing and their professional values. Methods: This descriptive and correlational research was conducted with 294 nurses who are working in a university hospital. The data were collected using a "Nurse Information Form”, the "Evidence‐Based Nursing Attitude Scale" and the "Nurses' Professional Values Scale - Revised". Analyzed by using descriptive and correlational analysis statistics. Results: The attitudes of the nurses towards evidence-based nursing (60.58±7.85) and their adoption of professional values (106.61±18.99) were found to be high. A moderate-level, positive significant relationship was found between the professional values of nurses and their attitudes towards evidence-based practice (r:0.599; p<0.05). Conclusions: It was concluded that as nurses' adoption of professional values increases, their attitudes towards evidence-based practice will also increase. In accordance with this result, it may be recommended to periodically include the subject of professional values in in-service training programs to increase the awareness of nurses about professional values by using interactive training methods and to support the participation of nurses in scientific activities related to the subject. At the same time, it may be recommended to enable nurses to perform evidence-based practices during care and treatment practices and to explain the evidence on care technologies and methods to nurses through in-service training.
