Compassion Fatigue Levels of Nurses Working in Risky Units and Affecting Factors

Öz

ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was carried out to determine the compassion fatigue levels of nurses working in risky units, and their differences according to demographic characteristics and working conditions.
Methods: The study, which was designed as descriptive and cross-sectional, was conducted with a total of 118 nurses working in oncology, emergency, intensive care, operating room, and mixed services of a foundation university hospital. As a data collection tool; a questionnaire containing information about personal, professional, and working environment and the professional quality of life scale for employees (ProQOL-R-IV) were used. Descriptive analyses, t-test, ANOVA analysis of variance, Chi-square and Fisher exact test, Pearson correlation analysis, and Post hoc test were used to evaluate the data. A p value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant for all tests.
Results: It was determined that the mean score of compassion fatigue of the sample was moderate level (16.0±8.3).
From the independent variables, age, the reason for choosing the profession, the unit worked, the duration of work in the profession and the unit, the number of monthly weekend shifts, and the way of defining oneself in interpersonal relations were found to cause significant differences in the levels of compassion fatigue (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the compassion fatigue levels of the cases in terms of some demographic and work environment variables.

Riskli Birimlerde Çalışan Hemşirelerin Merhamet Yorgunluğu Düzeyleri ve Etkileyen Faktörler

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışma, riskli birimlerinde çalışan hemşirelerin merhamet yorgunluğu düzeylerini, demografik özelliklere ve çalışma şartlarına göre farklılıklarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel olarak dizayn edilen çalışma, bir vakıf üniversitesi hastanesinin onkoloji, acil, yoğun bakım, ameliyathane ve karma servislerinde çalışan toplam 118 hemşire ile yürütülmüştür. Veri toplama aracı olarak, demografik ve çalışma ortamı ile ilgili bilgileri içeren anket ve merhamet yorgunluğu düzeyini belirlemek üzere çalışanlar için profesyonel yaşam kalitesi ölçeği (ProQOL-R-IV) kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı analizler, Student t testi, Anova varyans analizi, Ki- kare ve Fisher exact test, Pearson korelasyon analizi ve post-hoc çoklu karşılaştırma testi kullanılmıştır. Tüm testler için <0.05 p değeri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı kabul edilmiştir.
Bulgular: Örneklemin merhamet yorgunluğu puan ortalamasının orta düzeyde (16.0±8.3) olduğu saptanmıştır. Bağımsız değişkenlerden; yaş, mesleği tercih nedeni, çalışılan birim, meslekte ve birimde çalışma süresi, aylık hafta sonu nöbet sayısının ve kişilerarası ilişkilerde kendini tanımlama şeklinin merhamet yorgunluğu düzeylerinde anlamlı farklılık oluşturduğu saptanmıştır (p<0.05).
Sonuç: Çalışma sonuçları hemşirelerin merhamet yorgunluğu düzeylerinde, demografik ve çalışma ortamına ait bazı değişkenler açısından anlamlı farklılık olduğunu göstermiştir.
