Examination of Secondary School Students’ Attitudes to Refugee Students

Öz

Objective: The study was conducted to establish the attitudes of middle school students towards refugee students.
Method: The descriptive study was conducted in three secondary schools in a provincial center where refugee students are concentrated. The study was completed in March-April 2023 by reaching a total of 702 students with Turkish nationality who were studying in the 2022-2023 academic year in the determined secondary schools. Data were collected using a “Personal Information Form” and the “Attitudes Towards Refugee Students Scale”. The data were evaluated using the SPSS package program.
Results: The students participating in the study scored 48.91±11.60 points on the scale of attitudes towards refugee students. The study found that female students (50.60±11.64) and 5th grade students (51.46±11.74) had higher mean attitude scores than their friends (p<0.05). It was determined that students who had close refugee friends, those who played games with their refugee friends between classes and those who did not have communication problems had higher mean scores than the others. There was a statistically significant difference between them (p<0.05).
Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that students who had refugee friends participated in activities such as games that increased interaction between lessons and stated that they did not have communication problems between them had a positive attitude. In this direction, it is recommended to increase educational and game activities for the school where the participation of refugee students is increased.

Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Mülteci Öğrencilere Yönelik Tutumlarının İncelenmesi

Öz

Amaç: Araştırma ortaokul öğrencilerinin mülteci öğrencilere yönelik tutumlarını saptamak amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı türdeki çalışma, bir il merkezinde mülteci öğrencilerin yoğunlukta olduğu üç ortaokulda yürütülmüştür. Çalışma, Mart-Nisan 2023 tarihlerinde belirlenen ortaokullarda 2022-2023 eğitim döneminde öğrenim gören ve Türk uyruğuna sahip toplam 702 öğrenciye ulaşılarak tamamlanmıştır. Veriler, “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ve “Mülteci Öğrencilere Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği” ile toplanmıştır. Veriler, SPSS paket programı kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir.
Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan öğrenciler, mülteci öğrencilere yönelik tutum ölçeğinden 48.91±11.60 puan almışlardır. Çalışmada kız (50.60±11.64) öğrencilerin ve 5. sınıfta (51.46±11.74) okuyan öğrencilerin diğer arkadaşlarından daha yüksek tutum puan ortalamasına sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir (p<0.05). Yakın mülteci arkadaşı olanların, ders aralarında mülteci arkadaşları ile oyun oynayanların ve iletişim problemi yaşamayan öğrencilerin diğerlerinden daha fazla puan ortalamasına sahip oldukları ve aralarında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık olduğu belirlenmiştir (p<0.05).
Sonuç: Çalışma sonucunda mülteci arkadaşları olup, ders aralarında etkileşimi artan oyun gibi etkinliklere katılan ve aralarında iletişim problemi olmadığını belirten öğrencilerin olumlu bir tutuma sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda mülteci öğrencilerin katılımının artırıldığı okul için eğitsel ve oyun aktivitelerinin artırılması önerilmektedir.
