The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to assess the self-regulated strategies used by elementary and middle school students in the writing process. This study is a multi-stage scale development process aimed at developing a Self-Regulated Writing Strategies Scale for students. The process includes item pool creation, ensuring content validity through expert opinion, pilot testing, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and reliability analyses. Data were collected from four different participant groups determined by criterion, convenience, and stratified sampling methods. In the analyses, content and construct validity were assessed using Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficients and second-order confirmatory factor analysis. The five-factor structure obtained from the exploratory factor analysis (n=473) explained 51.6% of the total variance. The fit indices obtained with confirmatory factor analysis (n=341) (CFI=.91, TLI=.90, RMSEA=.045) showed that the model was highly consistent with the theoretical structure. Cronbach's Alpha (.68–.90) coefficient indicates that the scale has high internal consistency. The hierarchical structure of the scale was tested with second-order DFA, confirming that the five subscales are organized under the superstructure of self-regulated writing strategies. Furthermore, parallel forms reliability analysis showed a high correlation with an existing metacognitive writing scale (r = .834). In this context, the ÖDDYSÖ contributes to the literature as a valid, reliable, and practice-oriented tool for assessing students' self-regulatory skills related to the written expression process and guiding instructional practices for writing education.

Etik Beyan

Prior to data collection, ethical approval was obtained from the Süleyman Demirel University Ethics Committee (Date: 14.11.2024; Decision No: E.884358). Institutional permission was also secured from the Provincial Directorate of National Education, and participation was entirely voluntary. These procedures ensured that the study was conducted in accordance with scientific and ethical standards.
