BENLİK KURGUSUNUN BÜTÜNLEŞMİŞ KİMLİK VE YAŞAM DOYUMU ÜZERİNDEKİ ROLÜ: DENGELİ BÜTÜNLEŞME VE AYIRT ETME-AYRIŞMA MODELİ

Öz

Bu çalışma, benlik kurgusunun bütünleşmiş kimlik ve yaşam doyumu üzerindeki etkisini Dengeli Bütünleşme ve Ayırt Etme-Ayrışma Modeli çerçevesinde incelemektedir. Ayrıca, bütünleşmiş kimlik ile yaşam doyumu arasındaki ilişkinin benlik kurgusu türüne göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı araştırılmıştır. Veriler tek yönlü MANOVA ve Fisher z testi ile analiz edilmiştir (N=348). Sonuçlar, ilişkili-kendileşmiş katılımcıların, kopuk-kendileşmiş ve kopuk-kalıplaşmış katılımcılara göre anlamlı derecede daha yüksek bütünleşmiş kimlik puanlarına sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. İlişkili-kalıplaşmış katılımcılar da kopuk-kalıplaşmış katılımcılara göre daha yüksek bütünleşmiş kimlik puanlarına sahiptir. İlişkili-kalıplaşmış ve ilişkili-kendileşmiş benlik kurgularına sahip bireyler, kopuk-kendileşmiş ve kopuk-kalıplaşmış benlik kurgularına sahip olanlara göre anlamlı derecede daha yüksek yaşam doyumu düzeyleri bildirmiştir. Bununla birlikte, ilişkili-kalıplaşmış ve ilişkili-kendileşmiş benlik kurguları ile kopuk-kendileşmiş ve kopuk-kalıplaşmış benlik kurguları kendi aralarında bütünleşmiş kimlik ve yaşam doyumu puanları açısından anlamlı fark göstermemiştir. Son olarak, bütünleşmiş kimlik ile yaşam doyumu arasındaki pozitif ilişki tüm benlik kurgusu türlerinde tutarlı olup, ilişkinin gücünde anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Bulgular, benlik kurgusu ile kişisel kimlik gelişimi arasındaki ilişkiyi açıklamada ve bağımsızlığın üstünlüğüne ilişkin varsayımları desteklemede Markus ve Kitayama’nın (1991) bağımsızlık ve bağımlılık kuramının kullanımını sorgulamaktadır

THE ROLE OF SELF-CONSTRUAL IN CONSOLIDATED IDENTITY AND LIFE SATISFACTION: THE BALANCED INTEGRATION AND DIFFERENTIATION MODEL

Öz

This study examines the impact of self-construal on consolidated identity and life satisfaction within the framework of the Balanced Integration-Differentiation Model. It also investigates whether the relationship between consolidated identity and life satisfaction differs by self-construal type. Data were analyzed with one-way MANOVA and Fisher’s Z test (N=348). Results showed that related-individuated participants had significantly higher consolidated identity scores than separated-individuated and separated-patterned participants. Related-patterned participants also had higher consolidated identity scores than separated-patterned participants. Individuals with related-individuated and related-patterned self-construals reported significantly higher levels of life satisfaction than those with separated-patterned and separated-individuated self-construals. However, no differences were found in consolidated identity and life satisfaction scores within related-individuated/related-patterned and separated-patterned/separated-individuated self-construal types. Lastly, a positive relationship between consolidated identity and life satisfaction was consistent across all self-construal types, with no significant differences in strength. Findings challenged the utilization of Markus and Kitayama's (1991) theory of independence and interdependence to explain the link between self-construal and personal identity development as well as the presumed advantage of independence.
