AN APPLICATION ON IMPROVING THE READING LEVELS OF STUDENTS HAVING DIFFICULTY IN READING
Öz
In this study, the effects of some strategies applied for improving the reading skills of the primary school
3rd grade students who have reading difficulties. The study has been carried out with a student who
has reading difficulty and been attending Piyalepaşa Primary School, Mamak, in Ankara, in 2007-2008
academic year fall term. According to the level of the student, the researcher has student read an application
text so as to determine the level of the student’s aloud reading performance before the application.
As a result of this pre-application the student’s reading level has been determined as being at
an anxiety level. Applications basing on repeated reading and paired reading strategies have been carried
out during the study considering the problems that student had in order to improve the student’s
reading skill. At the end of the study, it has been seen that the student’s reading level is improved from
anxiety stage to teaching level.

OKUMA GÜÇLÜĞÜ OLAN ÖĞRENCİLERİN OKUMA DÜZEYLERİNİN GELİŞTİRİLMESİNE YÖNELİK BİR UYGULAMA
Öz
Bu çalışmada okuma güçlüğü olan ilköğretim 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin okuma düzeylerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik uygulanan birlikte okuma ve tekrarlayıcı okuma yöntemlerinin etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırma, 2007–2008 öğretim yılının güz döneminde Ankara ili Mamak ilçesi Piyalepaşa İlköğretim Okulu 3. sınıfında öğrenim gören ve okuma güçlüğü olduğu belirlenen bir öğrenci üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencinin uygulama öncesi sesli okuma beceri düzeyini belirlemek için kendi sınıf düzeyine ait ön uygulama metni okutulmuştur. Bu ön uygulama sonucunda öğrencinin okuma düzeyi bakımından endişe düzeyinde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencinin okuma becerisini iyileştirmek amacıyla öğrencinin yaşadığı problemler de dikkate alınarak, belirlenen süre boyunca tekrarlayıcı okuma ve birlikte okuma stratejilerinin temel alındığı uygulamalar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Uygulamalar sonucunda öğrencinin okuma düzeyinin endişe basamağından öğretim düzeyine yükseldiği görülmüştür.
