Climate Change Coping Scale: Turkish Adaptation and Psychometric Evaluation among Young Adults

Öz

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Climate Change Coping Scale (CCCS) in young adults. Method: This methodological study was conducted among young adults aged 18-35 years between October to November 2025. Data was collected using a Personal Information Form and the CCCS. Psychometric analyses included language and content validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, convergent and discriminant validity, internal consistency coefficients, item-total correlations, and test-retest reliability. Results: Exploratory factor analysis supported the original 16-item structure and a three-factor solution explaining 60.74% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated good model fit (χ²/df = 2.778, GFI = 0.910, AGFI = 0.879, NFI = 0.896, CFI = 0.924, RMSEA = 0.069). The subscales demonstrated internal consistency, with Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients ranging from 0.79 to 0.88. Factor loadings were satisfactory (0.52-0.84), and test-retest analysis indicated high temporal stability (r=0.86-0.90). Conclusion: The CCCS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing climate change-related coping strategies in the Turkish context, supporting its use in research and psychosocial evaluation contexts.
