Turkish Adaptation of the Climate Change Perceptual Awareness Scale: Validity and Reliability Study
Öz
Objective: This study aimed to adapt the Climate Change Perceptual Awareness Scale into Turkish and to evaluate the scale’s validity and reliability. Method: The study was conducted with 202 adult participants recruited online from various regions of Turkey. During the adaptation process, one item from the original scale was removed. Consequently, a 14-item structure comprising four subscales-emotional awareness, awareness of temperature change, awareness of drought/water scarcity, and media (news) awareness was obtained. The scale’s construct validity was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis; internal consistency was examined using Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients. Results: The analyses demonstrated that the scale’s four-factor structure was validated in the Turkish sample. Item factor loadings ranged from 0.53 to 0.91, and the model fit indices were determined to be at an acceptable level. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the total scale score was found to be 0.891, and the McDonald’s omega coefficient was 0.885. The internal consistency coefficients for the subscales were found to be adequate and high. Conclusion: Turkish version of the Climate Change Perceptual Awareness Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
