Life-Threatening Hemorrhagic Cases in Forensic Cases Admitted to the Emergency Department Evaluation with Blood Gas, Shock Index and Hypovolemia Classification: A Retrospective Study

Öz

Objective: This study aims to contribute to the literature by conducting a medicolegal evaluation of forensic cases presenting to the emergency department with hemorrhage. Material and Method: Forensic cases that were brought or admitted to the Emergency Department of the Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine with blood loss were evaluated within the scope of the guidelines for forensic evaluation of injury offenses defined in the Turkish Penal Code. The SPSS 25 package program was used in the statistical evaluation of our research data. Results: It was determined that 4.63% (n = 95) of the 2048 forensic reports prepared in the emergency department were cases with blood loss. We determined that 84 (88.4%) of the cases were male and 11 (11.6%) were female. The most common age range of the cases was 45-54 years (n=23). Between 2019 and 2023, the highest number of cases was observed in 2021 (26.3%, n=25). According to the type of incident, it was observed that the most common type of incident was a fall from height 50.5% (n=48). Conclusion: We believe that in the medicolegal evaluation of forensic cases with hemorrhage in the emergency department, all parameters outlined in the current guideline must be thoroughly applied during the diagnosis and treatment process to ensure accurate reporting. Furthermore, we consider that these parameters will contribute to the management of the clinical process and support practical applications.
