151. Thomas R. Bakeris an Education Manager at Esri where he focuses on improving GIS
152. across instruction and educational technology integration strategies. His background as a
153. science and technology instructor supports his leadership of the Esri Science, Technology,
154. Engineering, & Math (STEM) Education initiative. He is an adjunct member of the University
155. of Kansas research faculty and regularly writes and presents about learning with geospatial tools.
156. Joseph J. Kerskiserves as an Education Manager at Esri, focusing on developing curricular
157. resources that use GIS technology, fostering partnerships to support GIS in instruction,
158. communicating about the benefits of GIS in education, and conducting research in the
159. implementation and effectiveness of GIS in education. A geographer by training, he has served
160. as Geographer in three federal agencies and teaches GIS at the University of Denver. Niem Tu Huynh
161. (AAG). She is part of a two-year project, ‘Establishing a road map for large-scale improvement
162. of K-12 education in the geographical sciences’. Prior to joining the AAG, she was an Assistant
163. Professor in the Department of Geography at Texas State University – San Marcos. In this
164. position, she taught undergraduate courses as well as graduate geographic education and

167. Kathrin Viehrigcompleted the European Teacher Course for primary and lower secondary
168. school as well as a supplementary examination in Intercultural Education/Foreigner Pedagogy at
169. the University of Education Karlsruhe. She spent her semester abroad at the University of
170. Auckland, New Zealand. She is at the Heidelberg University of Education since 2007. At the
171. moment, her main areas of research are GIS didactics and geographic competencies. Since
172. , she is also in the second phase of teacher education, teaching at a school in Leimen St. Ilge.
173. Sarah W. Bednarzis a Professor of Geography and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in
174. the College of Geosciences, Texas A&M University. She is Co-chair of an NSF-funded
175. project to lay out a road map for efforts to improve geography education at a large scale
176. over the coming decade.
